Parents with disabilities will now have equal rights when it comes to custody decisions, thanks to Ohio’s new anti-discrimination law effective from April 3, 2023. This move puts Ohio in line with federal law and 17 other states that have passed similar legislation. It’s important because research shows that parents with disabilities are unfairly referred to child welfare services and permanently separated from their children at disproportionate rates. This new law will help protect the rights of parents with disabilities and ensure their fitness to parent is not determined by their disability
