Ohio Statewide Disability Needs Survey 2022

In 2020, The Ability Center identified a need to conduct a larger and longer-term evaluation of barriers to Independent Living in Ohio. With the data collected, we’re hoping disability advocates around the state are better equipped to move towards the vision of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Supreme Court case Olmstead v. L.C., 527 U.S. 581.

of respondents agreed there is not enough accessible housing in Ohio

53.45%

of respondents could only afford less than $600 a month in rent

60.87%

noted that public transportation is unreliable and does not get them to needed places on time

64.76%

responded a lack of awareness of how to interact with people with disabilities is a major barrier to public access

58.62%

do not think there are enough inclusive sports and recreation opportunities in their community

54.43%

stated that there is high turn-over in the in-home provider workforce, and their in-home providers change often
