Inclusivity and accessibility are important attributes of any community, and Toledo Ballet’s mission includes making sure everyone has the opportunity to participate in the arts, regardless of their financial standing or physical capability.

By bringing in a wide variety of dance styles, both classical and contemporary, The Toledo Ballet gives its audience exposure to many different types of dance they may not otherwise have seen. In doing so, it brings the community together as one, promoting unity and inspiring respect through our differences and similarities. As an organization, Toledo Ballet continues to grow by learning from past successes and implementing changes accordingly.

Current inclusion programming includes:

  • Thursday, Adaptive Dance for Teens/Young Adults
  • Saturday, Adaptive Dance for Children 8+

Toledo Ballet has specifically designed this class for children and adults with Down Syndrome and adults on the autism spectrum. This class allows the dancers to move and dance to rhythms that naturally emerge from their bodies. While experiencing the sheer joy of movement and music will remain the focus of the class, other benefits include: improving muscle tone, developing motor skills and balance, appreciating music and rhythm and using these to direct body movement, and developing emotional well-being and social skills. Adaptive Dance students perform in Toledo Ballet’s annual Showcase. They also have performance opportunities throughout the community.

Adaptive Dance Assistants ages 18+ are needed at Toledo Ballet. Experience in PT and OT is a bonus!
